How We Calculated the “Real Cost”

Comparing automation tool pricing is harder than it looks. Every tool counts usage differently:

Zapier counts tasks — each successful action execution = 1 task.
Make.com counts operations — each module processed in a scenario run = 1 operation. A 5-step scenario uses 5 ops per execution.
n8n counts executions — each workflow run = 1 execution, regardless of how many nodes it contains.
Pabbly Connect counts only external action steps. Triggers, internal transformations, and routing steps are free.
Activepieces doesn’t count tasks at all — it limits by number of active flows, not volume.

Our normalization approach: We used a representative “typical SMB workflow” — 5 steps (1 trigger + 4 actions). At 2,000 workflow runs/month, this equals:
